The official endorsement from the Somali government came shortly after Musk's announcement. Mustafa Yasiin, the Director of Communication for Somalia’s Ministry of Telecommunications, confirmed the successful licensing of Starlink, citing two and a half years of discussions that led to this pivotal moment. “We gave them the licence today,” Yasiin stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing internet infrastructure in the country.

In a video shared by the state news agency SONNA on Facebook, Yasiin expressed optimism about the significant improvements Starlink could bring to the existing internet services. “We hope Starlink will increase the quality of the existing internet in Somalia and will make the internet service reach more remote areas,” he said.
